Dear colleagues,
The Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Court Competition provides law students with the unique opportunity to gain practical experience in the fields of international commercial arbitration and the Convention on the International Sale of Goods (CISG).
The participants have to work on a realistic case. In the written round, the teams submit memoranda on behalf of the claimant and the respondent in order to demonstrate their knowledge of the law and their analytic skills. In the oral rounds, teams from all over the world compete against each other under the direction of international arbitrators who will rank their performances. This year, the oral round takes place in Vienna from 19 March – 22 March 2016.
The University of Graz will participate and is presently building a motivated team of students.
The preparation of the team, consisting of ca. 8 students, will be done in the form of a seminar held by Univ.-Prof. Mag. Dr. Christian Aschauer and Univ.-Prof. Dr. Bettina Nunner- Krautgasser (winter and summer term 2015/16, 10 ECTS).
The problem of the Willem C. Vis Moot will be distributed on 2 October 2015; this is also the day at which our seminar starts (see, seminar no. 210.019).
To prepare for the oral rounds of arguments, students routinely take part in pre-moot competitions. Last year, the team from Graz successfully participated in pre-moot competitions in Helsinki, Belgrade and Moscow.
We strongly encourage motivated students (from Austria as well as from abroad) with excellent English language skills and a strong interest in international arbitration and the CISG to participate. We are looking forward to having you in our team!
