The Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot is a competition where students from all over the world submit one written Memorandum on behalf of a claimant and one on behalf of a respondent. From 19 March – 22 March 2016, in Vienna, the students will deliver oral pleadings under the direction of international arbitrators who will rank their performance. It is a challenging and exciting learning experience, based on a contract of sale between two countries that are party to the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods and rotating arbitral rules (for more information, see https://vismoot.pace.edu/).
The problem of the Willem C. Vis Moot will be distributed on 2 October 2015; this is also the day at which our seminar starts (see, seminar no. 210.019).
To prepare for the oral rounds of arguments, students routinely take part in pre-moot competitions. Last year, the team from Graz successfully participated in pre-moot competitions in Helsinki and Moscow.
To the extent possible, the organizers of the seminar try to obtain funding for the students, in order to contribute to the travel and accommodation costs.
We strongly encourage motivated students (from Austria as well as from abroad) with excellent English language skills and a strong interest in international commercial law and international arbitration to participate.
